Please contact our office upon receiving any letters or materials from the Social Security Administration. This would especially include any decisions SSA makes on your claim.

You will also need to keep my assistant who will be working on your claim, informed of any new medical treatment or new medical conditions that you are diagnosed with. This would include hospital stays and emergency room visits. When you are diagnosed with new conditions or your present impairments become worse, it is very important for us to let SSA know about these changes.

Steps in a Social Security or SSI Claim

• If you file for Social Security Disability or SSI and receive a denial notice, you only have 60 days from the date on the notice to file a Request of Reconsideration.
• You will need to file the reconsideration appeal paperwork before the 60 days expire. You may call our office upon receiving this or any other denial and our office staff will evaluate your claim, obtain information and inform you if we are able to assist you in appealing and pursing your claim on your behalf.
• Upon filing reconsideration, it will take anywhere from a few to several months to receive a decision from SSA. If a denial is received, you again have only 60 days from the date on the notice of reconsideration to file a Request for Hearing. It can take several months before getting a hearing date and sometimes several months after the hearing to get a decision.
• We are involved in claims at any stage of the Social Security process, whether it is after the initial application has been processed, after you receive the first denial or after subsequent denials. All you need to do is contact our office.
